The Ch'i of Body and Place: Connecting the Chakras with Feng Shui

The following information was authored by a colleague, BJ Gorman. Her book The Ch'i of Body and Place: Linking the Chakras with the Bagua Map explores fascinating connections between two ancient systems – Feng Shui and the chakra system.

In her book, BJ elucidates that each gua section of the Feng Shui energy map corresponds to a specific chakra center. The chakra system, rooted in Hindu teachings, posits that vital energy flows within our body like a spinning wheel or circle. When we're healthy, this chakra illuminates like a lotus flower; when obstructed, it moves sluggishly.

Our environment reflects the state of our energy flow just as how our body mirrors who we are. BJ suggests that by modifying the energy in the spaces we most frequents, we can transform ourselves and improve our lives.

She continues with a comparison between the chakras and Feng Shui equivalents:

The Root Chakra resides at the base of the spine, specifically around the tlbone. The equivalent gua in Feng Shui is Family and Health area. Robust physical health and family roots empower us to withstand life's challenges and storms. This sector of your home or living space signifies areas where these energies manifest.

The Sacral Chakra corresponds to Wealth Abundance in Feng Shui, linked with sexuality, influencing our ability to attract prosperity and cultivate relationships.

The Solar Plexus Chakra aligns with Personal Power in Feng Shui, impacting self-esteem, confidence, and personal achievements.

The Heart Chakra Love in Feng Shui, where compassion, forgiveness, and loving relationships are nurtured.

The Throat Chakra connects to Communication Self-Expression areas of Feng Shui, influencing our ability to articulate thoughts and emotions effectively.

The Third Eye Chakra is associated with Intuition Wisdom gua in Feng Shui, impacting insight, creativity, and spiritual awareness.

Lastly, the Crown Chakra corresponds to Enlightenment Guas, integrating spirituality with wisdom and connecting us to higher understanding and peace.

The spine aligns with the Center of the Bagua. The circulation of energy from all chakras is integrated through this center, akin to Kundalini energy. The center area represents yin and yang in Feng Shui – constant movement between receptive and active forces, feminine and masculine energies.

omits some detls for brevity such as color associations with the chakras and Bagua guas along with descriptions from Christianity, Judsm, and Qabalah about each area. For further detl, you may explore BJ's book or her website at www.spaceharmony.com.
